There is so much that goes on behind the scenes to create this great Democracy/Republic. Step one of our electoral process is collecting petition signatures of community members of specific political parties to get candidates on the ballot for election on the party line.

Introducing the Neighbor to Neighbor Campaign

In 2023, Town of Wappinger voter turnout was 32.6% for the local elections. This is similar to 2021 and 2019. The Committee has met more of out neighbors each year but turnout has barely increased. To engage more of out neighbors to get out and vote locally, we are starting something new - The Neighbor to Neighbor campaign.

Town of Wappinger United Water District - 1 well down due to PFOA/PFOS contamination

On December 19, 2023, the Town of Wappinger sent out a notice to residents about their drinking water, The notice warned that 1 of 10 wells tested above allowable levels for chemicals perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in the Town’s drinking water.

New in New York State - Public Match for Candidates

2024 will be the first year New York will have publicly funded elections, thanks to a law signed by Kathy Hochul in 2022. It gives matching funds for small donors from $5 up to $250 and reduces the amount that any individual donor can make in Statewide, Senate and Assembly races.

AIRPORT MASTER PLAN UPDATE

The Master Plan for the airport was presented by Gayle M. Mckee Associate Director of C&S Companies, an Aviation Group. The plan was mostly upgrades to meet the new standards and basically deals with aviation issues. There was no mention of expansion. Users of the airport and community businesses were surveyed as to what was needed.
